Underbelly prequel blonde bomshell Anna Hutchison
October 8, 2008
With casting details and plotlines for the prequel a closely guarded secret, Confidential understands that Hutchison has been penned in for the role in pre-production planning, ahead of final negotiations, to play a part in the hotly-anticipated Nine drama.
The 23-year-old, who was filming The Legend Of The Seekers in New Zealand yesterday and unavailable for comment, is slated to play a character based on the life of Alison Dine.
Hutchison's acting representatives at Sue Barnett & Associates in Surry Hills declined to comment when contacted yesterday.
But a source close to Hutchison said the gig was "an amazing break for her in such a great series".
The new drama, which will follow Sydney's underworld in the 1970s and '80s, will add meat to the young star's CV, which has included playing Lily, the kids' crimefighter in Power Rangers and a role in NZ soap Shortland Street.
Hutchison could find herself working alongside White Collar Blue favourite, Peter O'Brien, who has been tipped to star in the ScreenTime production.
Griffith, in the Riverina, is perhaps the only reluctant star of the latest series, concerned that its image will be harmed if its drugs past is writ large again on the small screen.
While the first series of Underbelly focused on Melbourne's bloody gangland wars, the prequel will follow the organised crime groups that stemmed from the Griffith-based dope trade.
The series will begin filming in Sydney later this year, to air early next year on Nine.
